Crusaders Come Back to Defeat Lynx
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th with two outs and the tying run at 2nd base, Bill Wetherbee lined a base hit to LC field to score Jason McBurnie to tie the game and then Chris Hammond singled to RC field to score Wetherbee for a walk-off 5-4 victory over a very good Mattanawcook Academy Lynx team on Friday night. After giving up 4 hits and 2 runs in the first inning, JB ace Chris Hammond settled down to give up just one hit the rest of the way while striking out 14 Lincoln batters. It was only fitting that after such a stellar performance on the mound, that Chris come through with the key base hit to win the game for the 2-1 Crusaders. Other highlights include: a walk, 2 stolen bases, and run scored for SS Ryan Carr. Wetherbee was hit by a pitch, stole a base, singled, and scored the winning run. Hammond was 2 for 4 with the game winning rbi. Adam Leadbetter had a sac fly for an rbi, singled, and made an outstanding leaping grab at first base. Nick Christie walked, scored a run, and doubled. Jason McBurnie was also hit by a pitch in the 7th and came on to score the tying run. Matt Storgaard had a single, rbi, and a nice sac bunt in the 7th to move the tying run into scoring position. It was an exciting game with a good crowd on hand to witness the big win. Congratulations to the Crusaders for showing a lot of heart in this game after being baffled by MA's Smith throughout the game. The Crusdaders have a rematch with the Old Town Coyotes on Saturday at Mansfield Stadium at 4:30. Come on over and watch an exciting team!

Bapst Boys Lose to Trojans but Bounce Back to Tame Coyotes
On Monday, the Crusaders opened the season down in Bar Harbor taking on the (1-0) MDI Trojans. After taking a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning, the game changed in favor of MDI. MDI scored 5 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th to steal the win from JBapst, 8-7. 5 errors and 14 runners left on base came back to haunt the Crusaders in the end. Keith Nelson had a hot bat going 3 for 3 with a walk and 2 rbi's. Sean O'Donnell contributed 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Chris Hammond had 3 hits including a double, Bill Wetherbee doubled, walked twice and scored three times. Hammond went 6 innings on the mound, giving up 5 hits, striking out 8 and there were no earned runs.
On Tuesday, the Coyotes took the brunt of Monday's tough loss as JBapst "put the whoopin" on Old Town early and often en route to a convincing 11-1 victory. Jason McBurnie was near perfect on the mound, going 7 full innings, striking out 9 and giving up just 3 hits and no earned runs for his first win. The offense got untracked in the 2nd inning after scoring a run in the first on an Adam Leadbetter single. The Crusaders sent 11 men to the plate against Old Town's top pitcher Casey Estes. 6 hits and 6 runs later, Bapst was leading 7-0 after 2 innings. They scored 2 more in the 3rd and 2 more in the 7th. Offensively for JB- Ryan (Happy 18th Birthday!) Carr was 2 for 5 with 2 runs, 2 stolen bases, and an rbi. (also a couple of nice plays at SS) Bill Wetherbee was 2 for 4 with a double, 1 rbi, and 4 runs scored. Chris Hammond was 4 for 5 with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Adam Leadbetter was 1 for 4 with an rbi. Sean O'Donnell was 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's and a run scored. Nick Christie was 2 for 3 with an rbi. Jason McBurnie was 2 for 4, scored a run and had an rbi and stolen base. Josh Storgaard also pitched in with a nice sacrifice bunt. The varsity is now 1-1 going into a Friday night game vs. Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln at Mansfield Stadium.

Bapst JV's tie Trojans
Solid start for the JV 9, given that they have had very limited field time so far this spring. In a back and forth contest they found themselves trailing 8-7 entering the bottom of the 7th inning. Bapst was able to push across the tying run on an RBI single by Deven Romaine. Offensively the Crusaders were led by Andrew Catlin (2 singles, on base 4 times), Adam Partick (triple, on base 3 times) and Deven Romaine (single, double, and "triple"). Solid infield defense all around the horn as well (they didn't dare it to the outfielders). Pitching duties were shared by Nolan Webber and Kurt Massey who both had strong innings.

$1400 Raised With Coupons!
Congratulations to the JB Baseball Team members for raising over $1400.00 for the team. Around $800 was received before Blitz Day today and the boys headed out to sell more tickets and evidently were very successful. Pizza was served later in the day to reward their efforts. TChristie was out 'scouting' the Old Town v. Presque Isle doubleheader. PI won game 1, 5-4 and OT defeated PI in game 2, 7-6. Looks to be a lot of parody in Eastern Maine B baseball this season. Camden Hills defeated Rockland in their opener, 11-0. JBapst opens up Monday at MDI at 4:30. JV's will host MDI on Monday at 4:30. (Husson U.)

Booster VP Needed!
We have yet to find a parent willing to be our Friends of John Bapst Baseball Vice-President. We'd prefer someone that's a JV parent or a parent of a current varsity sophomore. President Tom Christie has all the info. needed on paper to make the transition quite smoothly. Current officers: Pres. Tom Christie, Treasurer Teri Carr, Secretary Mary McEwen. If you can help us out, please let us know soon. Tom's son Nick will graduate...and so will Tom! Thanks. Go Crusaders!

Welcome to the 2010 JB Baseball Season!
Welcome back! Tom Christie will be putting in the order for Fan T-shirts on Tuesday, the 20th of April. This is you last chance to purchase a purple short-sleeve shirt with "John Bapst Baseball" on the front and rosters of both the JV and Varsity teams on the back. Shirts are $15 each. Email Tom at: Baldadam@aol.com with how many and sizes (Small to 4XL). Any parent/player wishing to order a team jacket for $70 should also let Tom know ASAP. That order will also go in on Tuesday to Wight's. The varsity has played 3 pre-season games thus far defeating Hampden and Camden and losing to Nokomis.
